An Extra Layer of Safety

In applications where fluid mixing is not an option, standard protection may not be enough. A double wall plate heat exchanger provides an additional physical barrier between the two fluid circuits, ensuring that a single plate failure does not result in cross-contamination.

The double wall system consists of two thin flow plates, welded together at the four portholes to form a plate pair. Each fluid flows on its respective side of this plate pair. Should a crack or hole develop in one of the plates, fluid migrates into the space between the plates, rather than directly into the
opposing circuit. It is then channelled through dedicated leak channels, making it visible from the outside - particularly in the inlet and outlet areas. This means that a leak is detectable before any mixing occurs.

Where it is Relevant

Double wall heat exchangers are the preferred solution in applications where the two fluids must remain completely separated – such as systems involving potable water or a food-grade medium, alongside potentially harmful process fluids or refrigerants.

Construction and Maintenance

The SonFlow double wall system features welded plate construction, eliminating the need for gaskets within the plate pair and minimizing the risk of internal leaks. The plates are secured by a hanging system designed for easy assembly and disassembly, making inspection and servicing efficient.

Plates can be manufactured from one or two different materials within a single plate pair – such as titanium and stainless steel, significantly reducing the costs.
